Spring (Mar–May)
Water warms fast and pollen from palo verde and olive trees loads the surface. Getting chemistry dialled in now is what keeps the pool clear through July.
Monsoon (Jun–Sep)
Dust storms drop a season of debris in twenty minutes and 115° heat destroys free chlorine daily. This is the stretch where weekly service earns its keep.
Fall (Oct–Nov)
Swim season keeps going while leaf and seed drop picks up. We rebalance for cooler water and clean filters loaded by monsoon season.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Pools stay open year round in the Valley. Lower demand means we focus on calcium, salt cells and equipment before the next hot season.
The two things that cause the most damage here
Monsoon season, roughly mid-June through September. A single haboob can drop more debris into a pool in twenty minutes than a month of ordinary weather. Dust settles into the water, raises demand, clouds the filter and buries the bottom in silt — and it happens on a random Tuesday evening with no warning.
Extreme evaporation. A Valley pool can lose a quarter-inch a day in summer. Every gallon that evaporates leaves its calcium behind and every gallon of fill water brings more in, which is why hardness and scale are the defining chemistry problem in Phoenix rather than an occasional nuisance.
There is no closing season here. Water cools but service continues year round, and winter is the right time for cell cleaning and equipment work.
A simple year-round rhythm
- Weekly: full clean plus a complete chemistry panel — never just a strip test
- Monthly: check filter pressure against the clean baseline and service when it is 8–10 psi over
- Twice a year: proper filter tear-down and clean (more often on DE or heavy tree cover)
- Annually: verify calcium hardness and cyanuric acid, and plan a partial drain if either is far out of range
- Seasonally: inspect equipment before the hardest part of the year, not during it
